OpenWeather is proud to announce that we have been awarded a place on the ESPO’s Weather Forecasting Services framework (118) for the provision of weather data services.
Reliable weather data is essential for the public sector, as weather is a powerful factor in managing public services. Access to accurate and timely information empowers officials to act proactively by deploying resources efficiently and keeping the community safe before a situation becomes a crisis. Whether anticipating a cold snap for gritting roads or using precipitation maps to deploy flood defences, this data is fundamental to the operations of local authorities and government bodies.
Integrated Weather Solutions for the Public Sector
To meet these diverse needs, OpenWeather provides crucial weather intelligence primarily through our user-friendly OpenWeather Dashboard. This powerful platform is a central hub where public sector professionals can access historical data, current conditions, hyperlocal forecasts, weather maps, and automated alerts. This enables officials to proactively manage a wide range of services, including:
- Road Maintenance: Gritting roads in advance of a cold snap to keep transport routes open and safe.
- Emergency Response: Deploying flood defences effectively during heavy rain to protect homes and infrastructure.
- Public Services: Optimising waste collection schedules and planning park maintenance around adverse weather.
- Community Events: Making informed scheduling decisions for festivals and markets to ensure public safety.
For teams that require deeper integration into existing software, our well-documented APIs and Historical Products Collection offer flexible and powerful alternatives.
A New Partnership Through the ESPO Framework
Our inclusion in the ESPO’s Weather Forecasting Services framework (118) marks a new chapter in supporting the UK public sector. ESPO is one of the UK’s largest public sector buying organisations, committed to providing a compliant and efficient procurement route for public bodies. For public sector organisations, this simplifies the entire procurement process. It provides a direct, trusted, and compliant path to accessing OpenWeather's full range of data solutions. The framework will initially run for two years, with an option to extend for up to another two years, making the maximum contract length four years.
We are excited by the opportunity this presents to forge new partnerships, empowering councils, emergency services, and other government bodies with the weather insights they need to build safer, more resilient communities.
