Weather maps: Rain modeling areas rendered by the VANE openweathermap platform

Maps is a very visually intuitive way for analyzing large-scale weather phenomena like cloudiness, pressure, rains, observing it in dynamic etc.Maybe you’ve already tried to play out with our “Map Editor” tool - custom styled maps renderer that provides tile layers based on every 3 hr constantly updatable weather data sets.

What if we combine current weather maps with satellite imagery layers to compare the real look providing by satellite and the modeling data?

This basic example shows you the option of satellite and weather maps combination and visualization on the one Leaflet mapAll currently available data sets, also including snow, wind, precipitation and clouds can be connected to the map to extend this application and make your desirable satellite-weather combination. As a satellite layer, in this example, we used NASA GIBS imagery, yet we’re looking forward to provide this kind of imagery directly through the VANE platform additional to Landsat data.

In the case of Mercator projection GIBS has a significant delay of data delivery and can lag behind the weather overlays for the current date and time.

On this map one can see daily satellite layer overlayed with the Rain areas. https://godnik.github.io/apps/owm-gibs.html

Another way to expand the “Weather maps” service capabilities is to add forecast and history requests. Although this possibility is not available in freely accessible API now - just hit us up if you are interested in such kind of service. Meanwhile we encourage you to try your own custom styled “weather maps” that can be connected to your map application or even to your professional GIS software that supports TMS or tiled rasters connection services.
