OpenWeather's New Dashboard Trigger Feature: Weather Monitoring Made Easy

Posted on 30 Oct 2024

The OpenWeather Dashboard now offers Weather Triggers, an exciting new feature that simplifies weather-related decision-making. Set personalized alerts for specific conditions in your locations of interest, eliminating the need for constant forecast checks. OpenWeather will monitor the weather and notify you when the trigger configuration values are met.

Creating a trigger cannot be simpler. In the Triggers section of your Dashboard, click "Create Trigger." Give your trigger a descriptive name, select the relevant location, and define the conditions that will activate the alert.

You can choose from the following weather parameters:

  • Air Temperature: Monitor for temperature increases or decreases that could impact your plans.
  • Wind Speed: Stay informed about high winds that might affect travel, events, or outdoor activities.
  • Precipitation: Receive alerts for upcoming rain, snow, or other precipitation events.

Set the desired threshold and indicate how far in advance you want to be notified. For example, to receive an alert three days before the temperature drops below freezing, you would select "Air temperature," "<," enter "0" as the level, and choose "3" in the "Notifications" field.

Basic users can create up to three triggers, while Premium users enjoy unlimited triggers and the ability to add multiple email recipients to ensure everyone stays informed.

Once your trigger is saved, OpenWeather will monitor the forecast and provide timely notifications in the Events section and the Dashboard sidebar. All upcoming events are conveniently displayed on the Events screen for easy tracking.

  • Businesses: Optimize logistics, protect assets, and ensure employee safety.
  • Event Planners: Make informed decisions about outdoor events and minimize weather-related disruptions.
  • Logistics: Avoid transport network delays and disruptions by tracking weather conditions at your destination.
  • Agriculture: Protect crops and optimize farming practices by monitoring for frost or heavy rainfall.

*OpenWeather's Weather Triggers are a valuable tool to help you anticipate weather changes, minimize disruptions, and make informed decisions. Explore this new functionality on the OpenWeather Dashboard and experience the advantages of proactive weather monitoring.
